A love story more than a century in the making. Long before Greystone welcomed its first celebration, there was Lucy, a beautiful mountain lake, and a love strong enough to leave its mark for generations. In 1913, Lucy Armstrong fell completely under the spell of Lake Toxaway. When her husband challenged her to spend an entire summer along its shores before he would build her a home, she did just that. Lucy pitched an extraordinary 2,000-square-foot tent beside the water and stayed, surrounded by the mountains she had come to love. Two years later, her beloved mountain retreat stood in its place, on the very grounds where The Greystone Inn welcomes guests today. More than a century has passed, yet the romance of Lucy’s story still belongs to this place. In the mountains reflected across the lake. In evenings spent beneath the stars. And in every couple who comes to Greystone to begin a story of their own. Some places are simply meant for love stories. We would be honored for yours to become part of ours.
